I have owned several handheld gaming devices, including the Switch, Anbernic models, OXP1, OXP2, Win Max 2, ROG Ally, Win Mini, and two LCD Steam Decks. Among all these, the Steam Deck OLED stands out as superior in every aspect. Even went on an egpu setup as a desktop replacement and I would say, handheld PCs are extention of your desktop and not a replacement.
Performance-wise, the Steam Deck OLED is exceptional. Contrary to what some might believe, its 15W TDP and lower settings often outperform other handhelds, offering a balanced and efficient gaming experience.
Battery life is crucial for handhelds, and the Steam Deck OLED excels here. The screen is stunning, and while the 90Hz refresh rate might seem excessive, it provides the option to balance TDP with performance. For example, I can play games like Bastion or various JRPGs at 3-5W and get around 7.5 hours of battery life. Even demanding games like The Witcher 3 run better at 10-12W TDP compared to other devices, delivering superior FPS at those settings.
A standout feature of the Steam Deck OLED is its quick power-off function, similar to a cellphone, eliminating the need for a full shutdown. If you're seeking a device that offers a console-like experience with the benefits of PC gaming, this is the one. It also caters to those who enjoy tweaking and customizing their gaming setup.
