Have been using the Beelink SER7 7840HS for a while and love it. But the green clashes with everything else on my desk - mostly black, white, and gray - and after agonizing over the Beelink SER9 HX 370 and this, eventually chose to go with the SER8 8845HS. The deal breaker for me with the SER9 was the higher price for smaller gains. The Space Grey and the smaller footprint [780 grams] complement everything else perfectly. I got the 32GB RAM and 1TB Storage variant. Replaced the Crucial P3 Plus 1TB with 2 x WD_Black SN850X 2TB NVME drives. Upgraded the 2x16GB Crucial DDR5-5600 Ram to 2x48GB Crucial DDR5-5600 CL46 Ram. Here are a few observations and two issues I've faced with installation and setup.
1. The SER8 8845HS came with the latest Bios. I chose not to go with the drivers provided by Beelink because they are several months older. I downloaded the latest Chipset Driver and Adrenalin from the AMD site.
2. If you are using Samsung 980/990 or WD_Black NVME drives, please make sure you update the firmware before you transfer any data to the drives. My SN850X drives came with the latest firmware.
3. Installing Adrenalin [24.12.1] was a headache. After two awkward attempts resulting in errors and crashes, decided to go with whatever driver Windows [11 Pro 24H2] provided with Windows Update.
4. After installing everything, I still have yet to find a driver for Multimedia Controller. Contacted Beelink but was conveniently told to ignore it. So far, the missing driver hasn't caused me any problems.
5. A huge plus for me is the fact that the vents are on the bottom. I didn't care much for the perforated top that the 7840HS came with and while I was concerned that the bottom vents may see an increase in operating temperatures, my fears were entirely misplaced.
6. Moving from a 5950X with a 3070Ti, naturally Photoshop, Illustrator and Audition do not respond as snappily as before but the SER8 is no slouch either.
7. If you are moving from the SER7 7840HS [Back: 2x USB4 40Gbps and Front 1x Type-C USB3.2 10Gbps] to the 8845HS [Back: 1x USB4 40Gbps and Front: 1x Type-C USB3.2 10Gbps], please remember that you will be giving up one USB4 40Gbps port on the back.
